Busy busy

Busy busy busy. Everyday have to think about FYP and about booking equipment. As the day goes by, I get more and more anxious about my FYP. It just seems so endless. Characterizing and characterizing everyday. The worst is that I came back last Saturday and was shut outside the door of my labs. There was nobody in the lab and the lab door needed a security card to access. AND how could they ever allow us, FYP students. to book the equipment when we don't have card access??? Desperate, I called Dr Miao. No, in fact I SMSed him. He called back 10 minutes later, and said he was doing on a report, and told me that labs are only open to RESEARCH students on Sat. Sadly, I had to give up my TWO slots - namely XRD and the 6360 SEM to the ghosts!!

Without any choice, I went to my simultaneous event on that same morning - my SE Lunchtime Concert rehearsal at LT19. Even though I was like 10 minutes late, everybody was doing nothing there. I went down the steps, and the Chairperson, (ok, I declare her non-bitch now cos' I have understood her plight recently), requested me to help tune the Beginners. Some of their violins are so out of tune, and the fine-tuners are so bloody tight!!! Engaging the help of a cute guy, we only managed to tune half the group of Beginners cos' it was really difficult to tune their violins. Tuning one violin took about 10 minutes. Both the guy and I were like quite warm in the cold LT after a while.

As usual, the good players were not present. There were only 2 first violins and no experienced cellist. Sad to say, there were about only 4 quite-ok players there. So the rehearsal was not very successful.

After the rehearsal, we went for lunch at Canteen A. Then continued to Nanyang House for practise. I was solo that day, leaving only me in the first violin section cos' the other player went home to do....... TUTORIALS?!?!?!

I guess the really good players are all bored with the easy pieces we have been playing for the past one year. Not to mention, I was already bored long time ago. My attendance is just to show respect to our conductor, and most importantly, I enjoyed every practise. How I wish we could have played more challenging songs. Really looking forward to String Ensemble becoming a String Orchestra after 26th Feb 2005. =)

Oh Great!

I woke up at 630am today, reached lab at 715am, and guess what? There were six people in front of me?!!?!?!? I wanted to book 3 slots, but ended up with 2, and those 2 slots were during lessons' time. Which means, I have to skip about 4 lectures next week. Oh MAN!?!!? One of them even helped a friend book and he wrote 2 names. I asked purposely hoping that he will "zi dong" a bit,"Can write 2 names meh?" But he ignored me!? Purposely!? F***!!

Got an sms from my junior just now: Hey, I am here to confess something. I'm sorry I have lost your black polo tee. So sorry.

WHAT?!?!?!? My black LTC tee which I have only worn once!!! I can't believe it. I also fear this to happen whenever I lend others something. Can't they put more responsbility towards it especially when it isn't THEIR stuff!?! F***!

Look at this email that I got:

Dear Students

The University has decided to implement the Grade Point Average (GPA) system for students admitted to the School of Humanities and Social Sciences in the academic year 2004-2005 and all students admitted to Year 1 with effect from the academic year 2005-2006.

The current system for assessment of student performance and award of honours will still apply to all other current students. The only change is the grades awarded with effect from the academic year 2005-2006 will be as follows:

A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, D+, D, F

We would like to assure you that the new GPA system to be implemented for the new students will not affect your assessment and degree classification.

Oh? Finally using this system where more transparency is given? Only when I'm graduating?! Still, NTU education system sucks.

Future

It's barely six months to graduation. I've seen many friends typing and printing their resumes in the computer lab. Today I saw two of my friends printing postgraduate scholarship application forms from universities like Cambridge and those in Australia, and attaching their degree audit. Sigh. Compared to my degree audit, mine can only be kept in the drawer and hope that it's never made known to anyone.

Applying for NIE Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) has crossed my mind. I have asked two friends - one already teaching and one who just graduated from it. Both said teaching is good. And that the course is easy. Well, one of them said,"80% of the people in Woodbridge are teachers." Did that scare you? "Most of them didn't have the passion for teaching."

Oh. Do I like teaching? I guess I do. I mean, at least I don't hate it. I saw a picture of my friend with her kids. Those little kids look so cute!! Deciding whether I should be a primary or secondary school teacher. Primary school teacher will be teaching Math, Science, Music? Secondary school teacher will be Science, Math, Math E, A Math, Physics? Haiz. It's a bit difficult to choose.

What will I be?

What a DAY!?

Firstly, my day didn't start out well BECAUSE my handphone didn't wake me up! I thought I still had 2 bars of battery left last night before I sleep. And JH's handphone was alarming and again, I had to wake her up and ask her to off it.

Then, we were off to the lab to queue outside for XRD. I went to the toilet first, and asked JH to wait for me outside the lab door. Then after I came out of my cubicle, JH said monotonously,"No booking for next Friday."

"WHAT?!" was the first thing that came to my mind. Then she continued,"Next Friday is public holiday."

"OH YAH!! I FORGOT!!!" At the moment I felt so silly waking up in the early morning for this.

Then we went to Canteen A and had McDonald's BIG BREAKFAST meal. First sin of the day. Even the canteen auntie was surprised to see us so early and joked that we were there to accompany her to mop the floor.

Then I was off to Electron Microscopy lab. I brought 11 1.44MB floppy disks so that I can copy out my SEM files. THEN, each file was 1.56MB after zipping!! SO, I cannot do anything!! WHY? Because the obsolete PC attached to the SEM had no internet access, uses WINDOWS 95, cannot convert bitmap files to jpeg, and only allows floppy disks and zip disks!!!!! And when I asked the think-she-is-so-great lab tech Irene whether they have zip disks to lend, she said,"No.". Think she so great meh? I just hate talking to her.

Upset, I went Computer lab, hoping to get results for my XRD spectrums. Again, the second day already, I could not get what I want. More upset. Then I went for my 1030 lecture.

After lecture finished at 1230, I went to do my SEM. I couldn't get the surface structure for one for my samples. Then stomach growled for an hour before I head for Canteen A for lunch. Ate alone. After I finished, I purposely walked over to the extension to get back hall hoping to see some familiar faces. Hehe, and I saw Von. Sat down with her and Peiru, and she complained about yesterday's Hall Opening Cheerleading competition, saying it's kelong one.

Then CP came along, sat down, and ate McDonald's fries. Sin 2. We were all sian that it's Friday and we're still in school at 430pm. So we all thought about where to go. Ikea? OK!

Took cab down together with Susan cos' it cost the same as taking public transport. Upon alighting, I saw a SBS bus in front of me. It took me three seconds to realise what was printed on the bus' body!! It was Hacken Lee on some advertisement!! But I didn't have the time to snap a picture of it. If anyone do see the bus, please take a picture for me! HEHE! CP almost "seh" me for my exclamation upon seeing the bus. -_-" Didn't buy anything there. Took cab down to Boon Lay market for supper. Nasi lemak and sugarcane drink. Sin 3.

Three sins and so many bad happenings.

Oh ya, have yet to hand in the Personal Record Form to my counsellor and general office. So lazy to do it.

This damn school network is driving me nuts for the whole week, with sucky MSN connection. Can only connect for 10 seconds!

And this blog is driving me CRAZY. The whole afternoon I spent changing the look of my blog just VANISH like that!!! And I don't know what the hell went wrong!!! Back to square ONE! I can't believe it!!!

Now all my links are gone. Must give me sometime before the whole blog looks nice again. Sigh.

New Blog Look

Hehe... Like the new look of my blog? Anyway, our SE performance for EEE week was terrible. Not enough experienced players. So, the pieces all went hay-wired. Sigh.

This Saturday is Sojourn concert at VCH. Tix at $12, 7pm. Anyone interested can contact me. Hope everything will be well on Saturday. =)

Here's something to share with you all... Haha, Sadako's revenge.

Shall go bathe now and not wait for JH.

New Hair

Went to rebond my hair today. Finally decided to do it after very very long consideration. Firstly, rebonded hair isn't the trend now. Secondly, there's nothing much I can do about my hair since I didn't want to colour it. Thirdly, I like to do my hair, cos' it kind of "release" my stress. So, after 3 years since the first rebonding, I had it done again today and at a price of only $85+$25 treatment + $24 rebonding cream, compared to the $300 at Kimage back in 2001.

At the salon neighbourhood, there was a stall selling durians! Hehe, so in order to satisfy my durian craving for the past one week, I decided to buy a packet priced at $6. But the guy asked me to take another packet. So I was like saying,"Buy 2 $10 ar?" The guy also quite "qing chai". So I bought 2 packets at $10. Hehe. And I shared it with CP and Jiehui. Too bad Von had cheerleading practise and couldn't join us. Haha. Here's the picture of the durians I bought, share with you all lah:

Yummy!

I didn't turn up for choir audition today. I hope I won't regret my choice.

Happy New Year

It's a brand new year. And nothing seems to change compared to year 2004. Still schooling, still unwanted, still struggling...

Entering into the last semester of University life. "What are you going to be?" - is the question many asked me. Well, definitely not an engineer? Been thinking of going NIE to study teaching. No need to pay tuition fees, and get paid about $2000 per month, and will secure a job for 3 years. Win-win situation? Why not?

Something very disappointing... it rained on 31st Dec 04!!! WTH! The countdown performance was open-air, and the rain stopped for like 20 min, which we decided to go up stage to perform. And through the last ensemble piece, it started to drizzle!! My violin got wet!! And I began to fear for the stupid rainwater to soak thru the maple wood! In the end, we didn't get to perform the quartet pieces!! Sigh. I went home and blow dry my violin with my hair-dryer. Luckily, it wasn't damaged.

Spent the new year's eve at home. Playing Sims 2, watching TV, and made another chocolate cheesecake. Hehe. I'm into cakes nowadays. Next will be durian moose cake. Yummy!

Ok, got to get back to my FYP progress report. Have to submit tomorrow and less than 50% through. *_*
